(Photo Source: Instagram)A social media post has made Coimbatore the talk of the town. It all started when Sidharth, a self-described policy and geopolitical strategist, reflected on the city’s underrated potential.
In the now viral post, he wrote, “The world is sleeping on Coimbatore. While everyone’s chasing hype in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, Coimbatore is quietly building factories, startups, and talent. Sometimes the places no one talks about are the ones that matter most."

While some praised the city and also claimed that the national recognition for it was long overdue, others stepped in with a few corrections.
Coimbatore – A Self-Made City
Many users loved the post and agreed that Coimbatore does not get the limelight it deserves. Some called it a “self-made city" with a solid economy built by hardworking industrialists, whereas others compared it to “Denver and Boulder in the US" for its “innovation, industries and growth."
“Coimbatore’s economy is robust and driven by strong private sector industries and industrialists who work silently on the holistic development of the city," read one of the comments.
One of them also speculated on the city’s future trajectory, saying that big tech companies might shift there soon. They wrote, “So all major IT companies might shift to Coimbatore." Another simply mentioned, “Coimbatore is the best."
Coimbatore Is Not Rising, It is Already There
But not everyone agreed with the idea that Coimbatore is rising now. A few people pointed out that the city has already been a powerhouse for years. “No, no one is sleeping on Coimbatore. Those who are related to the industry know it. It’s not quietly building anything; it’s already there. It’s just not seen because it’s a hardcore engineering hub minus the glamour of IT," read one of the comments.

Another local proudly wrote, “Coimbatore, my city. It’s not building, it’s already a hardcore industrial hub."
The post sparked a debate on the growing awareness of tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India, besides cities like Bengaluru and Chennai. But one thing is for sure, Coimbatore is being noticed and people are talking about it.
