Education technology leader honored for employee and customer focus and expanding workforce development initiatives with JMU X-Labs internship program
RESTON, VA — Ellucian, the leading higher education technology solutions provider, has been named a Fast Company 2025 Best Workplace for Innovators, marking the third year in a row that the company has earned this distinguished honor. Selected from thousands of employers, Ellucian stood out for empowering employees to shape the future of higher education and develop transformative technology that helps institutions adapt and meet the evolving needs of learners.
This year’s recognition also highlights Ellucian’s continued investment in workforce development through The Reimagined Internship, an innovative collaboration with James Madison University's JMU X-Labs. The Reimagined Internship bridges the gap between college and career, providing students with real-world experience through a hybrid, multidisciplinary program blending classroom instruction with practical application.
"Innovation fuels the progress of higher education and society as a whole," said Laura Ipsen, President and CEO, Ellucian. "This recognition highlights Ellucian's leadership in reimagining how institutions serve learners — building stronger bridges between education, work, and lifelong growth. I am inspired by our team's commitment to turning vision into reality, advancing technology that empowers learners and creates opportunities for future leaders everywhere."
Working alongside Ellucian mentors, students from diverse disciplines — including AI, UX/UI, ethics, business, and cognitive psychology — form collaborative teams to tackle real challenges and deliver impactful solutions. By incorporating student perspectives into product development, Ellucian ensures its solutions reflect the evolving needs of learners and institutions. The program includes a prep course at JMU followed by a 12-week paid summer internship at Ellucian’s Reston, VA headquarters, culminating in a live product pitch to senior leadership.
Greg Giangrande, Chief People and Communications Officer, added: "At Ellucian, innovation is woven into how we think, work, and grow — both as individuals and as teams. We're creating technology solutions that serve learners worldwide while simultaneously developing future-ready talent through immersive programs like our partnership with JMU."
