From March through the end of April, sales of U.S. booze in Canada plummeted more than 66 percent, an analysis by trade group Spirits Canada, seen by Bloomberg, found.<\/p>\n<p>That figure was even higher in Ontario, the country\u2019s largest liquor market. There, sales of U.S. alcohol dropped 80 percent in the same period, according to the analysis.<\/p>\n<p>This month, Trump has threatened a new 35 percent tax on goods imported from Canada, one of the U.S.\u2019s top trading partners. In a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the president cited the country\u2019s \u201cfailure to stop [fentanyl] from pouring into our Country\u201d as the reason behind the new tariffs. That will hurt them more than anything at all. We\u2019re their number one customer,\u201d Ford, according to CTV News. \u201cWe are an economic powerhouse, and we don\u2019t have to take a backseat to anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canadians first pushed back after Trump threatened initial hefty levies in March.<\/p>\n<p>Moosehead Breweries, a Canadian brewery founded in 1867, announced the \u201cPresidential Pack.\u201d Each pack contains 1,461 cans, one beer for each day remaining in Trump\u2019s second presidency. The company called it \u201cjust enough to get through the full presidential term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karen Grigg, Director of Marketing at Moosehead Breweries, issued a statement at the time: &quot;If the start of 2025 has taught us anything, it&#039;s that it will take determination to weather four years of political uncertainty\u2014and what better way to make it through each day than with a truly Canadian beer.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>As part of the boycott, some liquor stores boasted empty shelves where American liquor was once kept while others put up signs that urged customers to \u201cBuy Canadian instead.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/skybeaconnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SEI243369120-scaled.jpe\" alt=\"Canadian liquor stores boast empty shelves after Trump initially threatened hefty levies against Canada in March\"\/>open image in gallery<figcaption>Canadian liquor stores boast empty shelves after Trump initially threatened hefty levies against Canada in March (Reuters)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Canada\u2019s boycott on U.S. goods could pose a threat to U.S. trade. Canada served as the U.S.\u2019s second-largest food export market last year, valued at $28.4 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s restrictions on American liquor isn\u2019t just impacting the U.S., it\u2019s leading to a decrease in all spirit sales in the country, the analysis revealed.
