Amid record food bank use, Canada Beef is running its Burger It Forward campaign throughout February. <\/p>\n

For each feature burger sold at the 357 participating Canadian restaurants, Canada Beef is donating the equivalent of one meal to Food Banks Canada, up to a maximum of 20,000 meals. <\/p>\n

In March 2025, Canada\u2019s food banks had almost 2.2 million visits \u2014 the highest number ever recorded, according to Food Banks Canada.<\/p>\n

In Alberta, 103 restaurants are taking part in Burger It Forward. A list of the participating Alberta restaurants, along with the feature burger they\u2019re each offering, can be found here.<\/p>\n

As part of the campaign, Alberta Beef Producers is donating $1,000 to both the Calgary Food Bank and Edmonton\u2019s Food Bank.<\/p>\n

Food banks across Alberta have seen an increase in visits. According to Food Banks Canada\u2019s HungerCount 2025 report, food bank visits in the province jumped by almost 22 per cent in 2025 compared to a year earlier \u2014 and have risen by 134 per cent since 2019. <\/p>\n

Lethbridge Food Bank executive director Valerie Lazicki said Thursday the need has risen in the southern Alberta city, as has the cost of non-perishable food items for its hampers. <\/p>\n

In 2024, the food bank\u2019s hamper count was 9,555, and in 2025 that climbed by about 24 per cent.<\/p>\n

The Lethbridge food bank has been able to meet the need thanks to a \u201cstrong, supportive\u201d community, said Lazicki.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe couldn\u2019t do it without the donations from the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
